Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's family belonged to 'Mahar' untouchable caste of Maharashtra. The biggest barrier in his life was the caste system adopted by the Hindu society which practised untouchability. Hence, he led the struggle against the practice of untouchability.

In $1927$ he led the Temple Entry Movement and was followed by people of Mahar caste. It was the beginning of anti-caste and anti-priest movements.

During this movement, he made a speech that encouraged the development of Indian society on the principles of equality and justice. Later Ambedkar announced his conversion to Buddhism in Nashik.

He worked for the human rights of the oppressed classes, poor women and the eradication of child labour. Ambedkar opposed casteism and was one of the pioneers of the Indian Labor Party.

Ambedkar's ideas are also reflected in the Indian constitution. He questioned the dominance of the upper castes in the Society. Hence, the draft of the constitution emphasises on civil liberties.

Ambedkar led the anti-caste movements in Western Parts of India. Similarly, E.V. Swamy Naicker led the social reform movements in the Southern Parts of India.
