Which vitamin is synthesised by human skin?

Skin is the largest organ that forms a covering around the body. It helps in the synthesis of vitamin D, which is important for the absorption of phosphorus and calcium from the intestine. The formation of this vitamin requires exposure of the body to the sun rays, during which the UV rays penetrate into the epidermis and activate the previtamin D 3 (precursor of vitamin D).
