Striated muscles fibres are long or elongated, unbranched and contain many nuclei. Each muscle cell is surrounded in a thin but distinct plasma membrane called sarcolemma. Each muscle fibre contains sarcolemma, sarcoplasm, and sarcoplasmic reticulum. There are alternate light and dark bands are present along its length. The striated appearance of skeletal muscle tissue is a result of repeating bands of the proteins actin and myosin that are present along the length of myofibrils.There are two types of striated muscles: Cardiac muscle (heart muscle) and skeletal muscle (muscle attached to the skeleton).
