The above given picture showing a small rooted plant whose roots remain dipped in the water. The glass is almost half-filled with water so that the roots can be easily dipped in the water. Now we add the red-coloured dye in the glass that gets mixed into the water. Keep the plant aside for some time, we observed that the veins of the leaves appears red. It shows that the roots conduct water and minerals absorbed from the soil particles to leaves through the stem. The conduction of water is carried out with the help of xylem vessels of roots and stem. Roots perform the function of absorption of water through the root hairs and transportation, whereas stem is responsible for the conduction of water from the roots to the leaves. The transport of water with the help of roots and stem can be summarised as follows: Root hairs→Xylem vessels of roots→Xylem vessels of stem→Photosynthetic cells of leaves
