The C n H 2n+2 is alkanes, which contains carbon-carbon single bond. The IUPAC name of the first member of the series of C n H 2n is Ethene. It is a colorless flammable gas with a faint "sweet and musky" odour when pure. The IUPAC name of the first member of the series of C n H 2n-2 is Ethyne. It is colorless gas widely used as a fuel and a chemical building block. The IUPAC name of the first member of the series of C n H 2n+2 is Methane. It consists of a carbon atom bound by two single bonds and one double bond. C n H 2n shows addition reaction with chlorine, in which one of the bonds in the double bonds is broken. C n H 2n-2 shows addition reaction with chlorine,in which two or more molecules combine to form larger molecule. C n H 2n+2 shows substitution reaction with chlorine, also known as single displacement reaction. In this reaction one functional group in a chemical compound is replaced by another functional group.
