The eye is an important part of the human body that enables us to see the various objects around us. The main parts of the human eye are.
Cornea: It is an outermost, protective and transparent layer covering the front portion of the eye.
Iris: The dark, muscular structure behind the cornea is the iris, which gives the eye a distinctive colour. It controls the amount of light entering into the eyes.
Pupil: Pupil is a small opening in the iris. The iris controls its size.
Eye lens: It is a double convex lens situated behind the iris. It can change the focal length.

Retina: It is the innermost layer of the eyeball on which the eye lens focuses the image. It consists of nerve cells, cone cells and rod cells.
Optic nerve: It transmits the image formed on the retina to the brain in the form of electrical signals.
Blind spot: It is the small circular area at the back of the retina where no vision is possible or no image is formed due to the absence of photoreceptors.

Working: When light reflected from an object enter into our eyes through the pupil and falls on the eye lens. The lens in our eyes is convex, so the light rays coming from the object are converged by the eye lens on the retina. When the image formed on the retina, which has many sensitive cells that generate the electrical signals, these signals are transmitted to the brain through optic nerves after which we are able to see the object.
