Alauddin Khalji ordered the economic reform of controlling the prices of grains, cattle, and slaves to increase.

He made the arrangements for the government to buy all the goods that had a long life and could not decay easily.

The sultan also made provision for bringing the collection of land revenue under his control by eliminating the middle system of local chieftains. They were also forced to pay taxes, which increased the revenue.

He imposed taxes on cultivation that came to be known as Kharaj and also imposed taxes on cattle and houses.
