Explain with the help of an example that the distance travelled by a body depends upon the path followed by the particle but the displacement of the particle is independent of the path followed.

A body moves a distance of $6 m$ towards east and then $8 m$ towards north. Calculate the total distance travelled by the body and the net displacement of the body.

 Name the physical quantity which corresponds to rate of change of displacement.
