1 . As indigo cultivation is a labour-intensive job, the planters were asked to sign a contract that provides them with the permission to only sow indigo in their fields. Over time, the price paid to the cultivators was also reduced to a great extent. The peasants had to work under the exploitative system. The peasants were also not allowed to sow any other crop in the fields. It was also found that repeated cultivation of indigo has exhausted the land fertility. 2 . The rebellion in Bengal turned out to be a successful one, and Bengal stopped being the hub of the indigo cultivation. It turned out that Bihar was the new base of the planters. With the change of the base, the problems of the indigo cultivators were not solved. The exploitation of the indigo cultivators only shifted to the peasants of Bihar.
