A flower, in general, shows four sets of parts arranged in rings or whorls—calyx, corolla, androecium, and gynoecium.
i) Calyx is the outermost whorl consists of small, green, leaf-like structures called sepals. It protects the flower in its bud stage.

ii) Corolla: It is the next whorl, consists of the petals. These are the structures that surround the inner parts of the flower. They are usually thin and colourful to attract insects for the process of pollination.

iii) Androecium: It is the next whorl, consists of stamens. These are the male reproductive parts of a flower. Each stamen is made up of a stalk-like part called a filament, which is topped by a sac-like anther. The anther contains pollen grains, the fine powdery substance needed for the process of reproduction.

iv) Gynoecium: It is the innermost whorl of a flower is gynoecium, consisting of the pistils or carpels. They are the female reproductive part of a flower. Each pistil consists of three parts—ovary, style, and stigma. It takes part in the process of reproductions and ovaries and ovules finally develop into fruit and seeds respectively.
