1.Domestic wastewater:-It comes from domestic uses like washing of clothes, utensils, bathroom. It contains urine, faeces, detergent and dirt released after washing. Harmful microorganisms present in it, which contains germs for diseases like jaundice, cholera, typhoid etc.

2.From Industries & hospitals etc.:-Waste water generated from Industries, Hospitals, offices & other places contain poisonous chemicals like nitrate, phosphate etc. Wastewater from hospitals may contain several types of disease causing germs & dangerous radioactive materials.

3.Rain water:-Rainwater runs over the roofs & ground. During its journey it accumulates various contaminants, which includes soil particles, heavy metals, organic compounds, animal waste, oil &grease. Rain water run over agricultural land and accumulates fertilizers and pesticides etc.These contain nitrate, phosphate etc.Pesticides contain poisonous substances that are harmful to fish and other animals.
