1) Preparation of soil by ploughing: Ploughing is the process involving the loosening and turning of soil in agricultural fields. It is also known as tilling. Usually done with the help of a wooden or iron plough.

Plough: A plough is used for ploughing the field. It is made of wood or iron. Earlier, ploughs were driven by animals like bulls, horses or camels. But, nowadays tractors are used instead of animals.

2) Sowing: Sowing of seeds can be done by hand by scattering the seeds in the field. This method is called broadcasting. Seeds can also be sown by using a simple implement called a seed drill.

3) Adding manure and fertilisers: Soil is the primary resource of nutrients like minerals for the crop. But some types of soil are not rich in minerals or are infertile. Even repeated farming can result in loss of fertility of the soil. In such cases, the soil is to be replenished with nutrients from the external source.

4) Irrigation: Irrigation is the process of applying controlled amounts of water to plants at needed intervals. Irrigation helps to grow agricultural crops, maintain landscapes, and revegetate disturbed soils in dry areas and during periods of less-than-average rainfall.

5) Harvesting: Harvesting is the process of gathering a ripe crop from the fields. Reaping is the cutting of grain or pulse for harvest, typically using a scythe, sickle, or reaper. On smaller farms with minimal mechanization, harvesting is the most labour-intensive activity of the growing season.

6) Storage of food grains: Storage of grains is the most important task. To keep harvested grains for a long time, they should be protected from moisture, pest, insects and other microorganisms.
