For finding the height we will first drop a perpendicular with help of set square on the base of the triangle and then take the measure of it with help of scale.

The perpendicular dropped from the vertex of triangle on its base is the shortest distance between the both.

For triangle $△ A B C$ the perpendicular from vertex $A$ to the base $B C$ is the height.

For a right-angled triangle its side which is perpendicular to the base is considered as height of the triangle as it makes $90 °$ with the base.

So, in $△ D E F$ , side $D E$ is the height of the triangle.

In $△ P Q E$ , to find the perpendicular distance we need to extend the side $Q E$ and then measure the length of the line from vertex $P$ up to the point where the perpendicular intersects with the extended line of $Q E$ .
