Important Points to Remember in Chapter -1 - Multiplication from Asit Das Gupta Junior Maths 3 Solutions

1. Multiplication by Repeated Addition:

(i) 4+4+4 can be written using multiplication symbol as 3×4.

(ii) 3 groups of 2 pens can be written as 2+2+2=3×2.

2. Multiplication Tables Using Addition:

(i) To make multiplication tables of 7, we split the number 7 as 3+4

(ii) Now, we can write 7×1=3×1+4×1=7 and 7×2=3×2+4×2=14.

(iii) Using the similar process, we can form the tables of 7

3. Properties of Multiplication:

(i) If we interchange the multiplier and multiplicand in a problem, we get the same product. Example: 2×3=3×2=6

(ii) If we multiply zero by a number, we get the product as 0. Example: 2×0=0

(iii) If we multiply 1 by a number, we get the product as the number itself. Example: 2×1=2

(iv) To multiply a number by another number ending with 0, multiply it by number of tens and then add zero in the end to get the product.

4. Multiplication Using Lattice Method:

(i) To multiply 12×12 using Lattice method, first, we split 12 as 10+2. Now write the numbers in the table as shown below.

× 10 2
10 100 20
2 20 4

(ii) To get the product, add all the numbers that is 100+20+20+4=144.

5. Multiplication Using Standard Method:

(i) Standard method of multiplying numbers is used to multiply large numbers.

(ii) To multiply 23 by 4, first multiply 4 by 3 and then 4 by 2.
