Two persons one of them is coming along south direction to reach to east-west road and other person is coming along the south-east direction starting from the same place. Let's calculate which person reaches first to the road.

Let, person $1$ starts journey along south direction that is from point A and person $2$ starts journey along south-east that is from point B.

So, according to the given question, the figure is given below:

They have to reach to east-west road.

To reach east-west road, person $1$ needs to move straight along $A O$ road and person $2$ needs to move along $B O$ road.

Now if we join $A B$ , right angle triangle $∆ A B C$ is formed.

So, $∠ O A B = 90 °$

$O B$ is hypotenuse and $O A and A B$ are height and base respectively.

We know that, hypotenuse is always greater than base and height.

So, $O A < O B$

Hence, person $1$ will reach first to the road.
