Variety of molecules present in the cells of living organism help to perform various functions. They are called biomolecules. Cell is the building block of an organism which consist of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and Nucleic acid.

Carbohydrates- They act as reserve food materials and main energy source. They are the main structural component of cell wall of fungi, plants, bacteria.

Proteins- They form various protective covering like hairs, nails, scale, horns, feathers etc. They are the part of biomembranes and also form matrix of connective tissue. They help in transportation of various substances in our body. Reactions taking place in our body catalysed by enzymes, which are made up of proteins. They also provide protection against infections.

Lipids- They act as cushions around vital organ and protect them.They also act as insulator and reduce heat loss from body. They form the main components of biomembranes.

Nucleic acid- It stores the information of the cells and determines the functions and structure of the cell.
