Food gives us energy to work and study, that’s why when you miss a meal you feel tired or sleepy. Food helps in growth of body and mind in all stages of life from childhood till old age. Nutrients obtained from eating food are essential for a disease-free body. If we don’t eat enough nutrient rich food, we will have many deficiencies which leads to diseases. Food helps in regeneration of cells. Human body from head to toe is comprised of cells which require nutrients. Plants or animals, both need food to survive. Plants produce their own food by photosynthesis and we humans derive it from both animals and plants.

Cooking improves the taste of food. Some raw food items like chicken has harmful bacteria or other microbes which can be killed by cooking. Cooking makes the food soft and it helps in digesting the food easily thus absorbing nutrients from food becomes easy. Since heat kills many microbes, cooking basically helps us from many food-borne diseases like diarrhoea. But we should not over cook food too as it will lose its many nutrients if over cooked. For example, vegetables like carrot, spinach etc loses its nutrients if over cooked.
