Disease causing microorganisms are called as pathogens. Pathogens enter our bodies through the air we breathe, the water we drink, or the food we eat. They are also transmitted by direct or indirect contact with an infected person or carried through an animal. Some of them are virus, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, etc. The microbial diseases that spread from an infected person or animal to a healthy person are called communicable diseases.

Tuberculosis is a dreadful bacterial disease caused by the organism Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It affects birds, animals and also humans. It affects the respiratory system and causes severe problems leading to fatal condition.

Malaria is a protozoal disease caused by the organism Plasmodium vivax. Female Anopheles mosquito acts as a carrier for this disease. Quinine is given for the treatment of malaria which is taken from the bark of Cinchona tree.
