The following are the various challenges that political parties face:

Lack of internal democracy: A common practice in India is to concentrate powers in the hands of one or a few leaders at the top. Parties do not maintain membership registers or conduct meetings and internal elections regularly. Only the leaders are given the right to make decisions in the name of the party, and other members are barely involved. Disagreeing people face difficulty in continuing with the party.

Unfair advantage and dynastic succession: Leaders of a party take unfair advantage and favour people who are close to them. Because of this, inexperienced people occupy positions of power. Basically, the topmost position is retained by the family members of the leader.

Money and muscle power: Parties basically nominate persons who can raise lots of money in the election. People who are rich and provide funds have roles in the decision-making of the party. Also, for the sake of money, parties support criminals.

Absence of meaningful choice: Very few choices are offered. For this to happen, parties should be significantly different, but the similarity in ideologies among the parties remains prevalent in the few years. Also, the same person shifting from one party to another adds to the drawbacks.
