The ovary is the swollen basal portion of the carpel that contains ovules. The cavity inside the ovary is called ovarian cavity or locule. The ovules are present in this cavity. Number of locules in the ovary varies in different plants. Ovary with one chamber is called unilocular ovary. This is seen in pea, groundnut, etc. More than one locule ovaries are called plurilocular. It may be two (bilocular), three (trilocular), four (tetralocular) or five (pentalocular).
