Vitamin A is essential for us because its deficiency causes xerophthalmia (hardening of the cornea of the eye) and night blindness. Sources: Fish liver oil, Carrots, butter and milk. Vitamin C is essential for us because its deficiency causes scurvy (bleeding gums) and pyorrhea (loosening and bleeding of teeth). Sources: Citrous fruits, amla, green leafy vegetables.

Monosaccharides are defined as the compounds that are the simplest form of carbohydrates. They have one sugar unit that cannot be further broken down into simpler sugars. Example of monosaccharide is glucose. The chemical formula of glucose is C 6 H 12 O 6 .
