(a)- (iii) The salivary glands in mammals are exocrine glands that produce saliva through a system of ducts. Therefore, the saliva is secreted by salivary glands. (b)- (iv) The stomach secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. The inner lining of the stomach secretes mucous, hydrochloric acid and digestive juices. The hydrochloric acid is acidic and it helps in breaking down the proteins and in killing the bacteria as well. (c)- (i) The liver is the organ where the filtration of the blood takes place which comes from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver secretes bile juice that helps in breaking down the fats present in the food. (d)- (ii) The remaining waste from the large intestine passes into the rectum and remains there as semi-solid faeces. From this remaining semi-solid faeces, the faecal matter is removed through the anus. (e)- (v) The small intestine has small finger-like projections called villi. Villi are found to increase the surface area of the small intestine for absorption of digested food. Therefore, the complete digestion of food takes place in the small intestine. (f)- (vi) The large intestine is the organ that is wider than the small intestine. The food that remains undigested and unabsorbed enters into the large intestine where the absorption of water and some salts takes place.
