The sun is the primary natural source of energy, but due to its geoid shape, rotation, and revolution, the entire earth does not receive an equal amount of energy.

Solar radiation is vertical over the equatorial area, or the torrid zone, throughout the year, but it is almost slanting in the temperate zones in both the hemispheres and it is slanting in the polar regions or frigid zones.

Slanting rays of the sun cover a smaller area than the vertical rays, which cover a large area. As a result, insolation is higher in the equatorial regions than in the polar regions, where it decreases as one approaches the poles.
