An insulated copper wire wound on some cylindrical cardboard or plastic tube, such that its length is greater than its diameter and it behaves like a magnet when a current is made to flow through it, is called a solenoid. Note: A current carrying solenoid with a soft iron core acts like an electromagnet which has the same pattern of magnetic field lines as that of a bar magnet.

In the circuit diagram given R 1 > R 2 > R 3 If R 1 and R 3 are interchanged, how will this affect the reading of ammeter.

The resistors are kept in series. If R 1 and R 3 are interchanged, the current through these three resistors in series remain unchanged. Hence, the reading of the ammeter remains unchanged. Note: When resistors are connected in series, current remains same.
