In Gupta Period, along with internal trade foreign trade also flourished. India had trade relations with South-East Asian countries as well as China and Central Asian countries. A large number of gold coins were issued in that period.

During the Gupta Period, the best pieces of art and literature were produced. Famous Sanskrit poet Kalidasa wrote many plays and poems such as Sakuntala and Meghduta. Amarsimha, Sudraka and Dandin were famous writers of that time.

Mathura became the centre of art during that time. Many beautiful temples were built at that time. Temples at Deoghar and Bhitari were examples of Gupta architecture. The world-famous paintings of Ajanta cave were made at this time.

Science and technology were made tremendous progress during the Gupta Period. Aryabhatta belonged to this time. The Decimal system was invented this time. Aryabhatta had mentioned the movement of the earth and solar and lunar eclipses in his book Aryabhattiyam. Not only mathematics, astronomy, and other sciences also made progress.

Mehrauli Iron Pillar was also built in this period. People of this period also led happy and prosperous life.
