When an ice cube is placed on a glass of water, it floats because the density of ice is lower than that of water. When an ice cube is placed, a certain amount of water equal to the weight of the ice gets splashed out. Thus, even when the ice melts, the water level will remain the same as the amount of melted ice equals the amount of water splashed out. Thus, we can say, the water level remains the same.
