The crops that are grown only in winter (October to March/April) are called "Rabi crops". These are also known as non-monsoon crops. These crops require a warm climate for seed germination and cold climate to grow. Since wheat is suitable to grow in temperate climate i.e., in a warm climate, Rabi season is the best season to cultivate it.

Wheat is a Rabi crop which is grown in winter between October and March/April. Rabi crops are also known as summer season crops. Wheat is a short night duration plant and it requires less water, warm/hot climate and humidity to grow. We get hot climate from February onwards and it is suitable for maturing grains. Short night duration and suitable temperature are needed for proper flowering in wheat plants. That is the reason wheat is cultivated in the Rabi season only. Therefore, if wheat is sown in the month of September, there will be less yield and loss in productivity.
