1- (e) The food that are high in salt, fat, sugar, or calories and low in nutrient content are called junk food. Salted fried snacks, gum, candy, most sweets and desserts, and carbonated beverages are junk foods. These food items are less in fibres therefore could lead to constipation, obesity, headache, accumulation of trans fat, increase in the level of cholesterol. 2- (d) The digestion of food occurs in the mouth, stomach and small intestine. Only partial digestion of food occurs in the mouth and stomach. The greatest amount of food gets digested in the small intestine as it receives digestive juices from the liver and pancreas. The wall of the small intestine contains several finger-like projections called the villi. These hold the food for a longer time so that maximum nutrients can be absorbed in it and further supplied to the body parts. These villi comprise networks of fine blood capillaries close to their surface. The food from the villi passes into these capillaries thereby getting absorbed into the blood and reaches the body cells to provide energy for life processes. 3- (b) The nervous tissue is a special kind of tissue made up of several elongated cells. This tissue is responsible for receiving and transmitting the responses from the sense organs to the brain and from the brain to the sense organs. The nerve cell has a large body with thin protoplasmic extensions is named as cyton and the extensions are named as dendrons or dendrites . One of the projections called axon is the longest projection and carry the nerve impulse from one nerve cell to another nerve cell through the synapse. 4- (a) The process of breakdown of complex food particles into simple food particles with the help of digestive enzymes is called the digestion. Carbohydrates convert into glucose, proteins convert into amino acids and fats convert into fatty acids and glycerol. The digestion starts in the stomach and completed in the small intestine. The small intestine secrets intestinal juice (a mixture of enzymes) and also receives pancreatic juice (a mixture of pancreatic enzymes). The enzyme trypsin and chymotrypsin are released by the pancreas in the small intestine and convert the partially digested proteins (peptides) into amino acids. 5- (f) The leaves are the green and aerial parts of the plant. These are the photosynthetic organs of the plant. The exchange of gases and water vapour takes place through the pores found on the surface of leaves. These pores remain protected by the guard cells. These cells regulate the opening and closing of the pores. When the water moves into the guard cells, they become turgid and the pores become open. The guard cells become flaccid when the water moves out from the cells and the pores become close. These pores are scientifically named as stomata. 1. French fries (e) fast food 2.
