The Bardoli Satyagraha was launched in $1928$ under the leadership of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The movement was launched by the peasants of Bardoli district of Gujarat due to the increase in the taxation done by the British government. During the year of $1925$ , the people of Bardoli faced severe famines and floods. This had adversely affected the crop yields of the farmers. Despite this, the Government in Bombay had increased the tax rates by nearly $22$ %. Despite various appeals from the farmers and peasants, the government refused to withdraw this immense hike in taxation. In $1927 - 28$ , the peasants and farmers requested Sardar Patel to lead the Satyagraha on the promise that the movement would be one of non-violence. Thus, Patel with the support of Gandhi led the movement and organized the large mass that came out in support. People from all walks f life came out in support of the peasants who had refused to pay the taxes. Ultimately, the British government had to yield in fear of things going out of hand. The revenue came to be reduced to $6$ % and all the lands that were confiscated by the government were returned to the farmers and peasants. Although, the movement was local, it received great support and recognition nationally. The ability of Sardar Patel to organize such a mass movement was greatly appreciated.
