Given compounds are: CH 3 CH 2 C CH 3 OH CH 3 - 2-methyl butan-2-ol is a teritiary alcohol, CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH - pentan-1-ol is a primary alcohol and CH 3 CH CH 3 CH OH CH 3 - 3-methyl butan-2-ol is a secondary alcohol. Boiling point of alcohols is determined by the ease and extent of H-bonding among the alcohol molecules. Tertiary alcohols being highly hindered will have the least hydrogen bonding and thus low boiling point as compared to less hindered secondary alcohol. Therefore, the decreasing order of boiling points of alcohol compounds are: Pentan - 1 - ol > 3 - methyl butan - 2 - ol > 2 - methyl butan - 2 - ol .
