Large water bodies are called oceans. Ocean constitutes more than $90$ per cent of the total area covered by water on the earth's surface. There are five major oceans on Earth. Namely, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Antarctic ocean. Most of the Southern Hemisphere is covered by oceans and seas making it a water hemisphere. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean. Oceans are vast expanses of salt water covering a great part of the earth's surface.

Oceans are represented by a blue colour on the globes and maps. Blue colour has been selected as the colour for water bodies universally.
